The advantages of a bilingual education – Admissions open at SIAL.school
November 17, 2021Studying history helps children make sense of the present as well as the past, and appreciate the complexity and diversity of human societies and development.
But did you know that learning about history in primary school can also be great fun?
Children learn to order events in time, to write and talk about the past, to use a variety of sources for information and to find differences and similarities, but also have the chance to role play or make art projects to better absorb all the information.
To see first-hand what this really means, we are delighted to share with you a photo gallery of our Roman Week, an action packed week during which our children in KS1 focused on different aspects of Ancient Roman life.

Monday
Children in KS1 were lucky to be able to participate in a Mosaic workshop run by Francesca Busca – former SIAL.school parent, mosaic teacher and environmentalist artist.
Tuesday
The children looked at the clothes that different Romans used to wear and were shocked to discover that they didn’t wear trousers! They enjoyed exploring Roman fashion, including the jewellery and different items of clothing.
The children then had great fun creating characters and making a laurel wreath crown for their special achievements.
Wednesday
The children learnt about the Roman chariots and chariot racing. They then also discovered where the ancient Romans would race, and looked at pictures of the Circo Massimo, and what it looked like then and now. The children then spent some time building a model of their own chariot and horses.
Thursday
All the children came to school dressed up as Ancient Romans and spent the day role playing.
For lunch, they enjoyed a Roman style banquet full of Ancient Roman delicacies!
