International Dot Day is a celebration of the power of creativity within the learning process and our school joined this initiative for the first time this year.
On the day, our staff and children dressed in their favourite dotty designs to celebrate Dot Day. The children took part in a number of activities to help develop their creativity and were also encouraged to not be unduly competitive with others.
EYFS children took part in many artistic activities, creating dots.

This is the main message to take from Peter H. Reynolds’ book, The Dot.
At first Vashti believes that she can’t draw. In reality she only needs to have more confidence with it. So her teacher encourages her to draw a simple dot and when Vashti sees that her dot is framed in her teacher’s office she realises that she is capable of being even more creative and is helped to be more confident in her abilities,

At SIAL we encourage both creativity and confidence and we believe that everyone has creativity within them, however hidden. We want to help it to spring out!
How did you celebrate this year’s International Dot Day?
