National lockdown and school closure: our home learning plan

As you will be aware, all primary and secondary schools have now closed, following England’s move into a third national lockdown.
We very much looked forward to welcoming all our pupils after the Christmas break, but following the official announcement we took immediate action to make sure they could keep up their learning even if virtually.

We want to see all children return to school as soon as it is deemed safe for them to do so, but in the meantime we are committed to providing them with the best online learning experience.
We believe that live interaction with their teachers and friends will provide the children with a source of comfort and normality in this unsettling period; this is why we are delivering more than 90 hours of live online lessons every week.

Back in April last year we worked hard to make sure that the transition to online lessons went smoothly and learning was as effective as it has always been. Those efforts have definitely paid off.
We split classes into smaller groups – each group has a dedicated Google Classroom where, in addition to live online lessons, our students can benefit from videos, activities, pre-recorded lessons, assignments and extra resources in Italian and English following our unique bilingual curriculum.
For children needing extra support in either of the two languages, we are also providing one-to-one sessions with their teachers and teaching assistants.

We appreciate this is not an ideal situation, especially when parents and carers are trying to balance home schooling with working from home, and our teachers are always available to discuss and assess any particular needs.

For anyone interested in joining SIAL.school from September, visiting our school will not be possible in the immediate future. Although we do encourage you to get in touch to discuss any queries you may have if you are considering applying for a place for the school year 2021/2022.
